GENERAL INFO:

If you enjoy poetry, artwork, photography, and computer design - literary publications is for you! The Palos Verdes High School literary magazine, Trade Winds, is accepting applications through Wednesday, May 23rd.  Interviews will be held on Thursday, May 24th after school.  Please pick up an application from Ms. Pavelka in Room 415 if you are interested in a 7th period literary publications course for the school year 2012-2013 and submit it to Ms. Pavelka in Room 415 on or before Wednesday, May 23rd.  Signups for an interview time slot will be posted outside Room 415.  

PVHS Choral is performing their Spring Concert on Wednesday, 5/23. The location is at St Francis Episcopal Church, with a start time of 8 pm.

Black Light Dance this Friday, 5/18/12 in the GYM from 8 pm till midnight. Tickets are $10 and are available in the Student Store. Guest passes are required for all non PVPUSD Students. These are also available in the Student Store.

SENIORS!!! If you have not already done so, please complete your SENIOR DESTINATION and AWARD SURVEY on Naviance!  We would like to know if you have received any scholarships and what are your plans after graduation.  If you forgot your Naviance user name or password, please stop in the CCC between 9:00 and 1:00 on Friday.

All students who have received or offered merit scholarships will receive their invitation on Monday for Senior Award Night (held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 7:00 in the GYM).  

Be The Change is a leadership program affiliated with the Associated Student Body (ASB) of Palos Verdes High School. BTC officers will work as student leaders on campus to promote positive change, a continued safe environment and a culture of acceptance and celebration on campus. The goal of BTC is to create student activities that live the message of Challenge Day.  BTC and ASB will collaborate on events and work as a unit for promoting positive leadership at PVHS during the year. Students will be part of the 2nd period Leadership Class and will receive leadership credit on their transcript. Get involved and apply for BTC! Applications are online and in the counseling office. They are due to Mrs Huber or Mrs Stapleton by May 29th. 

PVHS's Annual Student Art Show Come join us tonight at the Palos Verdes Peninsula Library for our Annual Student Art Show. This show represents artwork produced by students from all of the current art classes, from sculpture to t-shirt prints. The reception will be from 5 pm-7 pm. It is free and there will be live jazz performed by PV high's own student musicians, food and lots of good fun to be had. We would love to see our faculty there. Thanks!

SENIORS - Please clear any outstanding Library/Student Store obligations ASAP.  You will not receive your cap/gown on 5/18 if they have not been cleared. Stop by the Library or Student Store if you have questions....

3rd annual Poetry Slam will be held on Friday, May 25th at 5 p.m. in the OAR. The PVHS library and National English Honor Society are cohosting this poetry open mike event. Prizes will be awarded to the top poetry recitations.

AP testing ends on Friday, May 18. Make ups will take place the next week; 5/23-5/25.

Any student interested in applying for the student member seat to represent his/her school on the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District Board of Education may pick up an application form in the Counseling Office.  The term of office is for a period of one year beginning July 1, 2012 and running through June 30, 2013.  The application deadline is Friday, May 25, 2012.  Interested applicants will be invited to appear before an interschool selection committee.  Copies of Board Policy 9150 and other materials concerning the position are also available for review in the Counseling Office.

“Give Back to the Children” will be holding a CAR WASH fundraiser on Saturday, 5/26 from 8am-2pm, in the school parking lot. Members will be selling tickets during lunch in Senior Park or see Abdul Sesay in the Computer Lab. Cost is $10 per car, Student cars are discounted at $5. Please support this great cause!

Free Tutoring offered by NHS students Tuesdays and Thursdays at Lunch in Room 202.

Free Math Tutoring is offered during 0 period on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 310.

Cafeteria Prize Drawing: Last Week : every day you buy a Cafeteria lunch you will get a raffle form. On Friday at the end of lunch period a drawing will be held for two $25 gas cards and the winners will be announced. This opportunity will end on Friday, May 18th. Good Luck!     Last week’s winners were Kyle Graf and Tomas Snur.

Choreo and Intermediate Dance auditions will be held on May 22, 23 & 24 from 3:30-5:30pm in the Lower Dance Room. Audition applications are available on the PV High website under Dance.

 

College/CAREER CENTER:

Students must sign up for College visits on Naviance. Permission to attend a College visit is at the discretion of the teacher. Students must pick up a permission slip in the CCC and obtain their teacher’s signature prior to attending an information session.

LIBRARY:

If you are enrolled in an AP class and your class will no longer be using the textbook after the AP test, return the book to the library after the AP test.Check with your teacher.  Any AP textbook that the teacher determines is no longer needed after the AP test will fall into the obligation/delinquent category and students may not claim graduation gowns or yearbooks if the book has not been returned by the end of the month.  If you have an AP class and your teacher will still use the book for assignments, keep the book until the end of the school year.

All girls who are interested in playing Volleyball in Fall 2012 must attend a meeting during lunch in Room 409, tomorrow, 5/17. All returning players are required to attend.

Baseball will be playing their 1st round CIF game at home on Thursday, 5/17 at 3 pm.
