Do What You Are?:   Jan 26th and 27th

During the lesson, students will work with the web-based program, Naviance, with the goal of understanding how they can use the program to help in their search for post-high school college/career options.  Because personality type has been shown to be a good predictor of career satisfaction and success, the students will begin by completing an online Interest Inventory Survey called “Do As You Are”.  Based upon the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, the survey results will indicate a certain personality profile for each student.  Students will be shown how the program, Naviance, first links a personality profile to career options, and then links career options with colleges that offer suitable preparation majors/programs.  Students will be asked to begin the survey during class, and complete what they do not finish at home.  The completed work will be returned to the student’s English teacher.  Counselors will discuss the results when they meet individually with each student and his/her parents during Sophomore Counseling in February.
