Capstone Projects at PVHS is part of a larger paradigm shift in educational thinking about what it means to learn.  Many top colleges are moving towards a capstone certification.  A prime example is UCLA: http://www.capstones.ucla.edu/criteria.htm

Our goal is to prepare our seniors to be ready for the best colleges in the nation and we see Capstone Projects as one way of doing so.

JUDGES NEEDED - CAPSTONE SENIOR PROJECTS

Our inaugural Capstone Exhibition will be held on May 3rd, 2013, Friday, from 7:30AM to 1:30PM.  PVHS is looking to recruit 50 or more community members, industry partners and parent volunteers to assist with this effort. Read more...

The Exhibition will showcase 370 senior Capstone Projects.  Ninety judges will score projects to select 50 Capstone Projects to move to the next phase of the judging process.  (This is the first round of the new judging process.)

As a judge, you will be participating in helping PVHS prepare our students for college and career.

You will score a total of 18 projects in a span of four hours.  We ask that you participate for the full four hours to help keep scores consistent.

We know that this is a large time commitment, but your time will be time spent positively impacting our students’ learning and preparation for college and career.

At 7:30AM, there will be a quick training session and rubric calibration time for all judges in the gym.  Breakfast/lunch and food will be provided throughout the day.   Judging will begin at 8:30AM and will end at 12:45AM.

If you are able to help us judge, please email Charles Park, Associate Principal, at parkc@pvpusd.k12.ca.us.  This will be an event to remember and it will be a unique experience for all showcasing some of the best ideas in high school.

Capstone Industry Partners

Industry Partners Scheduling Survey

Dear Industry Partner,

Palos Verdes High School has launched a new initiative called Capstone Projects. Our senior students are working on projects throughout the year that will be connected to one of these industry sectors or strands:

  • Arts, Media & Entertainment
  • Education, Psychology & Public Service
  • Engineering & Environmental Science
  • Health Sciences & Medical Technology
  • Business, Marketing & Sales

We are inviting you to work with our students in helping them create meaningful, real-life projects. As a mentor, you’ll guide them through designing a relevant project and then prepare them to present it to an audience.

Currently scheduled meeting times will be on Wednesdays from 8:00-8:45 AM on:

January 30, 2013
February 20, 2013
March 20, 2013
April 17, 2013
May 1, 2013

You can help link our students to the workplace by providing job shadow opportunities and/or being a career speaker where you can speak to a small group of students about your profession.
We invite you to become a part of something very special here at PVHS!

Sincerely,
Charles Park, Ed.D.
