Former PVHS student Alex Lloyd will share information and his experiences as a cadet in the United States Coast Guard Academy.

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SUMMER PROGRAMS USC Summer Programs will be on campus to talk about the classes and programs offered at the University of Southern California for high school students this summer.
THE PALOS VERDES HIGH SCHOOL COLLEGE COUNSELING GUIDEBOOK IS ONLINE Thanks to the PVHS Booster Club, Head Counselor Trista Ramirez and CCC Director Teri Kuwahara spent the last few months compiling a guide to college admission for PVHS students and parents. The guidebook is now available on the school website under Counseling and CCC. It contains detailed information on every aspect of the college admission process from sophomore to senior year.
The PVHS Academic Committee of the Booster Club is looking at the possibility of printing the guidebook and making it available for sale for those who do not wish to print out 100+ pages. If you would be interested in purchasing a copy, please email pvhsccc@pvpusd.k12.ca.us or call Robin Millar at x239 in the Counseling Office to be added to the email list. You will be sent any future information on how to reserve a copy.
UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS VISIT
An article on Teri Kuwahara's recent visit to the University of Kansas (basketball game included) will be included in the next issue of the PTSA newsletter The Wave. Juniors with a GPA 2.5 or higher can consider this spirited Big 12 university for the same price as a UC. Seven former PVHS students have made it their choice, so far, and are enjoying their Jayhawk experiences.
CALIFORNIA PUBLIC COLLEGE INFORMATION NIGHT If you missed it, links to information on the California State Universities and University of California campuses are on our school website under CCC under Applying to College and in the College Counseling Guidebook. Ruth Rodriguez from UCLA will be returning to campus on March 22 for an information session for juniors. Check Naviance and sign-up.
SCHOLARSHIP UPDATE
Recently posted scholarships include: Andrew Sakura Memorial , California Credit Union, Silver Spur, Cornerstone, Agnew-Brusavich, Lion's Club, PVP Chamber of Commerce. Check Naviance for details/eligibility requirements and application information.
The following scholarships have deadlines fast approaching:
Long Family Foundation ($1500) - Deadline March 12. For graduating seniors interested in pursuing a career in the arts by majoring at a college, university, or institution in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Creative Writing or Design.
Lee Brennan Memorial ($ varies) - Deadline March 12. For graduating seniors who desire continuing education leading to a career in the Cable and Telecommunications Industry (Marketing, Sales, PR, Business Management, Advertising, Network Programming, Customer Relations, Governmental Affairs, Video Production, Sales, Human Resources, Broadband Engineering, Finance and Media/Communications).
Ronald McDonald House Charities ($2,000) - Deadline is March 12. For graduating seniors, regardless of ethnicity. Other scholarships under this same program are available specifically for African American, Asian
Pacific American and Hispanic American students. Applicants must be legal US residents, have a minimum 2.7 GPA.
Italian Catholic Federation ($ varies) - Deadline is March 15. For graduating seniors of Italian ancestry who are of Roman Catholic faith and meet academic, financial need, and character requirements.
Scholarships are renewable.
Stan Chambers Journalism Awards ($1,000) - Deadline is March 18. This program is designed to develop journalism skills for high school seniors. Participants must submit an original essay incorporating the theme "What Matters Most" in your life. |
